K5D in the log – #321 total

Posted: February 14th, 2009 under DX, Dxpedition, Hamradio.

kp5.jpg K5D started up on Friday, but I was at work, so I didn’t have the chance to get him. Know a few LA’s got him very early. Saturday I got up early and had a listen. He was on 40M SSB, but couldn’t hear him, so I went to 40M RTTY to work a few QSO’es. After a while K5D started to come up, but was listening over 200. Then around 08Z he finally moved and started listening under 7.200. I got him quickly then for an all-time new one. Thank you to the K5D team.

Congrats Andy! Now you need to knockem down on CW for it to really count. The pressure is on! Hi!

Thanks Ulis.

Yeah, I really would like them on CW, but aren’t complaining. The most important thing was getting them in the log at all. Hopefully one of these days 🙂

I got them on CW earlier Sunday morning on 20m. I picked them up on 20 SSB at 0600 UTC on the first call believe it or not. The band was dead and he kept calling QRZ so figured what the heck. I would love to get them on 40 or 80 CW but right now they seem to be in love with working JAs and are blocking out EU & USA as I write this. They will work plenty of JAs on 40 around GL time. I call it the JA wave when operating from TI but this op right now seems to be intent on digging JAs out of the mud leaving EU GL stations sitting when in a few hours he will have probably have them blasting in on 40. Oh well…

Congratulations Ulis. I heard them on several bands, but didn’t really bother to call much. Pile-up’s are big, and I’m not a big gun. I had a shot at 40M this morning before work. They were loud, but only JA, and had to leave for work. They were on 30M working EU, but they were not too loud there. Hope to get them later this week. I think it would be better to maybe go for 10min EU then 10min JA. The croud were very impatient and making too much qrm on 40M.

Congrats! Don’t think I will bother this time as I have KP2A/KP5 confirmed from 1989.

Hi Bjørn.

Thanks. I was relieved when they were in the log. It proved to be quite easy, but a few other bands is always welcome!

Hi Mat!

Yeah, it sure can be tough from up north. I’m happy that you at least got them in the log. See you on the bands.

Andreas.
