Stuart makes his first contact

KB6NU posted a story from this years field day on his blog. I read the story some time last week, and I found it quite touching. The story is about Stuart making his first radio contact. Stuart is a young boy 13 years of age who get’s his first shot at a contact on a field day. This boy learned the morsecode on his own and have been listening to ham radio operators on his handheld scanner for several years. His mother brought him along to the field day so he finally could meet some hams and see them operate radio. It turns out his morsecode is so good he manages several CW contacts on his own with very little guidance.

Norwegian TV-show Newton featuring Morse vs SMS

LB1GB asked for the url to the tv-show where LA4LN and I (LA8AJA) appeared a couple of years ago. The show was Newton, and aired January 21st 2007 on NRK. I thought I had a post about it, but just couldn’t find it. I know I posted the url on contesting.no, but when I found the url, it was incorrect. After searching NRK, I finally found the url. It’s all in Norwegian and can be watched at this url. The show is a Norwegian version of a Jay Leno clip some years back. Who will be the fastest to transmit a message. Will SMS beat morse-code? Google honors the birthdate of Samuel F.B. Morse

When I checked Google this morning, I noticed they swapped their logo for morsecode. It read google, when clicking on the morsecode, I found that they link to Samuel F.B. Morse. He was born April 27, 1791. Check my picture here to see it, or go to Google yourself. What a nice gesture!
