Software.
Lance W7GJ released a new version of his moontracking software a few days ago. He has included a map which shows the moon terminator. This can be quite useful to determine who has moon and who hasn’t. Lance saw the need for this on his E51SIX expedition, where he had no internet access most of the time. This is the same functionality as the ON4KST chat room has. Get the new version here.
For those of you who doesn’t know what GJTracker is, it’s a handy program for those running eme. The moon can be tracked in real-time, or you can check for common moon with the stations you are trying to work.

I’m happy to report that the DXBase hamradio logging program has got a new owner. Neal K3NC aquired the software a few days ago. Read the announcement from the new owner here. I’m happy to see that DXBase will be continued in it’s development. In a blog post here, Neal says that we shouldn’t except a DXBase 2009 version, but a 2010 version is quite probable. A forum has also been set up here, where you can join in and discuss the software. Another great thing mentioned, is that the new DXBase releases will not be locked in a pattern. They will be released as soon as the new version is stable enough for release. Neal was also so kind to visit my other post where he told me he had aquired DXBase. I sure wish you all the luck with the future development of DXBase Neal!
As a side note, a small updated version of DXBase 2007 was released to fix the qrz.com url change. Grab the new release here.

Hamradio,
LoTW.
The last week has brought several new ones confirmed on LoTW. I got 7P8OK and 7P8MM confirmed on LoTW. That brought my total up to #230. On Augusth 19th, I got several 7O1YGF qso’es confirmed, which brought my total to #231. Other interesting stuff confirmed is KH6MB 20M RTTY. I had KH6 worked on RTTY, but not confirmed. I have also worked KH6MB on 40/30/20 CW, but those are not on LoTW. For some reason, only the qso’es after January 1st 2009 will be uploaded. Anyway, thanks to all that upload their logs to LoTW.

The good openings on 6M seems fewer and fewer as we approach the end of the sporadic-e season. I have noticed several days with openings to Europe, but I rarely bother to work anything. I’ve started listening on HF again, where several expeditions has been qrv.
On August 4th, I worked FJ/VE3EY on 20M CW as #273 on 20M. An hour later I got 7P8MM on 40M CW (#239 40M).
On the 5th, I worked 5N0OCH and FJ/VE3EY on 17M CW. FJ was #259 on 17M. A few hours later I got Z29KM on 40M CW (#240 40M).
On the 6th I worked 7P8OK on 20M CW.
On the 7th I worked 3DA0VA on 17M RTTY (#184 RTTY) and KH6MB on 20M RTTY.
On the 10th I worked 7P8OK on 20M RTTY (#185 RTTY), 3DA0EL on 20M CW and 9J2FM later in the evening on 30M (#248 30M).
On the 11th I worked KH7XS on 17M CW with a nice signal.
On the 12th I worked VC1W (NA-154) on 30M CW.
On the 13th I worked VU2PAI on 40M CW.

DX,
Dxpedition,
Hamradio.
Last night I got the news that the 7O1YGF expedition back in 2000 is finally accepted for DXCC, after being declined several years ago. I have six qsoes with 7O1YGF. I have worked them on 17/15/12/10 CW/SSB/RTTY. Read the announcement from the ARRL DXCC desk below:
The following operation has been approved for DXCC:
7O1YGF — Yemen Operation from April 16, 2000 through April 26, 2000
After reviewing recently-received information regarding the 7O1YGF operation, and after additional dialogue with a leader of the DXpedition, the DXCC desk has approved this operation.
Considering the length of time that has passed since this operation, we ask that DXCC participants who would like to claim credit for 7O1YGF follow the options below:
Send the 7O1YGF card ONLY to DXCC with a SASE, or return postage if outside the US; DXCC will process the card and applicants will not be charged a submission fee. 7O1YGF cards included with other cards will be handled as part of a normal submission.
Bring the card to a DXCC Card Checker. The card checker will forward the confirmation to the DXCC desk for processing. Again, there will be no submission fee if this is a single-card submission. You must fill out an application form, however.
In all other cases applicants can include their QSL card with their next submission, and it will be handled normally. We will work with the 7O1YGF team to use Logbook of the World if possible.
Remember, the cutoff date for the 2009 DXCC Annual listing and Honor Roll list is December 31, 2009. We encourage applicants to handle this sooner rather than wait until the last minute.73 es DX!
